Want to be part of a reality show in China?
Ten years ago, Shanghai Dragon Television, also known as Dragon TV, made waves in China when the television station created a new pool of dashing male stars with a new reality show titled My Hero (Chinese title Jia You ! Hao Nan Er). Modeled after Hunan TV’s smash hit Super Girl, My Hero’s most successful winner is its 2007 champion Jing Boran, the 26-year-old star of China’s highest-grossing movie of all time Monster Hunt (2015).
Now, the Shanghai Dragon TV hopes to replicate their success with a female version of the talent search, titled Girls Fighting (Chinese title Jia You ! Mei Shao Nu). The production team is embarking on a global search for talented girls with exceptional singing and dancing skills from China, Malaysia, South Korea and Taiwan. Through the reality show, Shanghai Dragon TV ultimately hopes to form a new all-girl group.
Representatives from Shanghai Dragon TV will be talent-scouting in Kuala Lumpur this week, before moving on to Taiwan next. They have noted that there have been various popular and talented female performing groups in Europe, US, Korea and Taiwan in the past decade but there has not been any outstanding Chinese female pop group.
With Girls Fighting, Dragon TV hopes to fill in the void, by nurturing new female talents who can eventually make a breakthrough in the Chinese Pop Music scene.
Contestants shortlisted from various auditions will be invited to join a special training program in China with key entertainment veterans as mentors and judges. Their progress will be featured in the reality show where the finalists will have the opportunity to train with a renowned Korean entertainment company before being formally introduced as a new female idol group!
For the Malaysian leg of the auditions, award-winning local pop duo FS (Fuying & Sam) will be serving as the Girls Fighting campaign ambassador to encourage more local females to realize their dream by showcasing their talents during the auditions!
During a recent press conference to launch the audition campaign, the duo were asked to list the most important criteria that talent scouts seek.
Speaking first, Sam said confidence was of paramount importance. “When a person is confident, she exudes a natural allure that is very attractive.”
Following that, Fuying said it was very important to possess an outstanding set of skills. “One must already have singing and dancing skills that will wow the audience.”
The Girls Fighting! Malaysia auditions are now officially open. Only females between the ages of 16 and 25 are eligible. To participate, send a 30-second video clip of yourself dancing and singing, with personal details (i.e. full name, IC number, contact phone number and 2 sets of portrait photo) via email to email@example.com.
