View from the Inside: Here's What Kendall and Kylie's Fashion Launch Party Was Really Like
Contrary to Derek Zoolander’s ethos, in real life, being successful in fashion takes more than simply being “really, really ridiculously good looking”. Case in point? The Jenner sisters. While Kendall and Kylie are of course, really, really ridiculously good looking (not to mention super stylish and famous from birth), making it big in the fashion business takes much more than that. And on Monday night in New York City, the youngest Jenners proved their salt in celebrating their first collection, Kendall + Kylie. The girls presented to a small, but key group of industry power players, such as Ken Downing, Fashion Director of Neiman Marcus and Roopal Patel, Fashion Director of Saks Fifth Avenue. The event, held at a private home in Tribeca, was an intimate one, where the Jenners hobnobbed with press, and also retailers—and the girls were all about talking business.
In covering the event, New York Times Fashion Critic, Vanessa Friedman pondered whether the Jenners could follow suit of Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, who parlayed their celebrity into an esteemed fashion house, with a CFDA award to prove it. “Are Kendall and Kylie Jenner the Olsen sisters of the midprice market?” questioned Friedman. With #proudmama, Kris Jenner’s midas touch, the sisters seem to have such sartorial potential.
And, no, not all of us have a brother-in-law named Kanye West or a family friend who was in one of the most famous boy bands of all time (erm, hi Lance Bass), to offer their congrats and a photo op. But at the end of the day, the clothes need to be good. Quality, fit, and price have to be on-point and the merch needs to get produced and delivered to retailers in a timely fashion. Parts one and two are there and time will tell on the rest. But judging from the reception last night, the fashion future looks bright for these ladies. Check out pictures and scoops from the party:
Kendall and Kylie arrived soon after their mother, and were all smiles. After dropping their coats and bags with a nearby assistant (mini Givenchys for the girls and a Judith Leiber crystal clutch for mama Kris), they spent over an hour answering reporters’ questions and talking about their collection.
According to multiple sources, Kris Jenner herself was involved in every last detail of the event. She stopped to pose with her old friend, Lance Bass.
PYTs Hanna Bronfman and Devon Windsor stopped by to offer their congrats to the Jenners and take selfies in the selfie booth (which was on a Jenner level of awesomeness).
About an hour into the party, the crowd quieted and it got really bright. So, apparently that’s when Kanye West walks into a room. The entire crowd had their iPhones in the air with flashes ON.
West was beaming with pride for his sisters-in-law and stopped by for some photos with them, his mother-in-law, Ian Connor, and A$AP Rocky.

Martha Hunt and Josephine Skriver stopped by.

After business, must come pleasure. After the meet and greet, Kendall, Kylie and friends, stepped downstairs to dance to tunes by DJ Virgil Abloh. And yes, everyone went crazy when Beyonce’s Formation came on. One girl even climbed up a ladder and danced on it. So that happened.
DJ Virgil Abloh and Kendall chatted for a while.
