Irredeemable: Adam McKay (The Big Short) will direct Irredeemable for 20th Century Fox. It's based on a comic book series written by Mark Waid that follows a superhero who becomes a villain and is then pursued by a group of superheroes seeking justice. Originally published by Boom! Studios, the big-screen adaptation is intended to launch a new superhero series for Fox. Tommy Wirkola (Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters) is writing the screenplay. [The Wrap]

Patriots Day: Melissa Benoist (TV's Supergirl) has joined the cast of Patriots Day, a movie about the Boston Marathon bombing in 2013. She will play the wife of one of the bombers. Production is currently underway in Boston; the cast is led by Mark Wahlberg, Michelle Monaghan, Kevin Bacon, John Goodman and J.K. Simmons. Vicky Cristina Barcelona

Escobar: Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz will reunite on the big screen in Escobar, which tells the true story of the romance between legendary drug dealer Pablo Escobar and TV host Virginia Vallejo. Fernando Leon de Aranoa wrote the screenplay and will direct. Bardem and Cruz first shared scenes together in 1992's Jamon, Jamon and more recently in 2008's Vicky Cristina Barcelona (above). Fathers and Daughters Trailer: In the first trailer for Fathers and Daughters, a widowed writer (Russell Crowe) struggles to raise his daughter while dealing with a serious medical condition, while 27 years later, his grown daughter (Amanda Seyfried) struggles to establish new relationships.
