Just in time to coincide with the release of Ride Along 2, a new trailer for The Secret Life of Pets focuses on a character voiced by Kevin Hart. In the upcoming animated feature, the comedian speaks the part of a white rabbit named Snowball. And as seems to be a growing trend in family-film humor (see the Alvin and the Chipmunks franchise), he accidentally poops when he's excited.
The Secret Life of Pets is from the studio that made the Despicable Me movies, which you'll be reminded of both in the appearance of Minions gallivanting around their logo and in the mention in the trailer that it's "from the humans" who gave us that hit franchise. As with Despicable Me, this movie seems to have fun blurring the lines of good guys and bad guys, because Snowball is its main villain.
In the new spot, we see him initiating other animals into his army of abandoned critters, called the "Flushed Pets." They're out to take revenge on all the still-loved domestic creatures. And two dogs who initially hate each other (voiced by Louis C.K. and Eric Stonestreet) need to band together to stop them.
Other animals in the movie are voiced by Bobby Moynihan, Jenny Slate, Lake Bell, Hannibal Burress and Albert Brooks, while Ellie Kemper and Laraine Newman play two of the human pet owner characters. Steve Coogan and Dana Carvey are also part of the voice ensemble. The Secret Life of Pets opens in theaters on July 8. Watch the new trailer below.
