Kristin Cavallari Reveals What Filming Laguna Beach and The Hills Was Really Like
With reality stars, it can be hard to realize, wait, we don’t actually know them—especially with a reality star we’ve grown up with like
Kristin Cavallari. We know all about her high school boy drama and that time she wore black to the white party. Hello, we were there when she spent a first date on the back of a guy’s motorcycle grabbing seafood in Malibu. (Here’s looking at you, Justin Bobby.)
Well, Cavallari wants us to know those fond memories don’t mean a thing because her real life was very different.
“Laguna Beach was really our lives being manipulated by being put in situations we never would have been in normally,” she explained to Momtastic. “And when I joined The Hills, I looked at it strictly as a job. We filmed three different scenes, three days a week. I had my life on-camera and a completely different life off-camera. I knew the character they wanted me to play, and this time I was game. Since I looked at it as a job, it was fun to play up the villain character.”
Anyone who watched either show most likely viewed Cavallari as somewhat of a bad girl, but one who knew herself and wasn’t going to take crap from anyone, girl or guy. Surprise, surprise—the reality was a little bit different (especially when you remember that taping started when she was a 17-year-old high-schooler).
“I came off like the person who really had my sh-t together but I was a mess—like most teenagers. I was really unhappy. There’s a saying that you have to learn to love yourself before anyone else can love you, and it’s very true.”
Earmuffs, Lauren Conrad—we think we really like grown-up Cavallari.
