When the highly-anticipated Gilmore Girls revival finally makes its debut on Netflix later this year, prepare to learn a whole lot more about one of the series’ more enigmatic characters.
Yanic Truesdale, who plays the Dragonfly Inn’s snooty French concierge Michel, has revealed that Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life will take fans into the personal life of the quippy character. In all seven seasons of the original series, we never really knew much about Michel aside from his time at work—and Truesdale relished the opportunity.
“We kind of haven’t seen Michel outside of work, really,” Truesdale told Us Weekly. “I think very rarely he was outside of the inn. And we didn’t know much about his personal life. So this time is different. We know much more.”

“That is nice for me as an actor because it gives me a backstory,” he continued. “But it gives me meat for the character because he, you know, I definitely have an arc and stuff going on in my personal life that affect the character. So the fans can expect to discover more about Michel.”
Might this backstory involve a love life? Naturally, Truesdale played coy when asked. “That I can’t answer,” he said.. “But you will definitely find out more about him.”
As Truesdale admitted to E! News back in April, the trip back to Stars Hollow and the Dragonfly Inn sets after nearly 10 years away (the original series ran on the WB/CW from 200-2007) was an odd one, but, ultimately, a satisfying one. “There’s a very strange feeling to it. It’s like going back to a house that you grew up in,” he said. “It’s exciting because you have another shot that’s something that was very meaningful and had impacted a lot of people. It’s exciting to have something new to give to the fans!”
Much of the plot of Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life has been kept under wraps (though you can get a refresher on all there is to know here), but we do know that the revival consists of four 90-minute movies and aside from stars Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel, nearly everyone from the sprawling cast has returned. Yes, even Melissa McCarthy.
