Alden Ehrenreich

Now that the new trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story has raised our expectations even higher for the first live-action Star Wars spin-off movie, it's time to turn our attention to the next one. It doesn't have a title yet, but we know it will revolve around young Han Solo, a rogue of another sort.

We first met Han in Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope, along with his loyal friend and copilot Chewbacca. Han was established as a charming, likable fellow who nonetheless followed his own rules, even when doing so frequently landed him in trouble. But how did he get to that point? The solo movie will focus on "the smuggler, thief and scoundrel whom Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi first encountered in the cantina at Mos Eisley." Alden Ehrenreich (above) was officially announced to be starring as young Han last month.

Now The Wrap reports that Lando Calrissian will be included too. Portrayed by Billy Dee Williams in Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back and Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi, Lando was introduced as the leader of the pleasure colony Cloud City and an old friend of Han Solo. Despite some initial misgivings, he quickly proved to the rebels that his heart was in the right place and even piloted the Millennium Falcon once again, the ship that he lost to Han in a game of cards some time before.

The Martian

Who might play such a character in his early years? Donald Glover is the first choice, according to BirthMoviesDeath, though it doesn't appear that an offer to him has been made yet. Glover is best known for his role on TV sitcom Community, though he's clearly an actor with dramatic range, as demonstrated with his performances in Magic Mike XXL and The Martian (above).

Glover's next big project is Atlanta, a show he created and stars in for the FX television network. He will also costar in Spider-Man: Homecoming. That still leaves room for the Han Solo movie, which is expected to start production next year, though we don't expect any official casting announcements for quite some time.

The Han Solo spin-off movie will arrive in theaters on May 25, 2018.
